How Can severe Migraine Headache Be Treated?

I have headaches everyday but the real bad migraines come at least 8 to 10 days a month. My Dr. will not give me any pain meds but the excedrin no longer work. Neither to the BC Powders. I still take them 3 to 4 at a time and it takes an hour before I can get up out of bed but my head still throbs. What can I do? I am 62 and have had these headaches since I was 29. Christine Hudgins

Hello,

If you are having 8 to 10 episodes of migraine headache in a month then you need to be started on prophylactic antimigraine drugs.

Most commonly used are, beta blockers, anticonvulsant, tricyclic antidepressants.

You may also be given abortive drugs which prevents progression of migraine episode once it begins. commonly used drug for abortive purpose is sumatriptan.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
